Professor See explains that atoms are tiny particles that combine to form all liquids, solids and gases. Atoms are composed of different particles called protons, neutrons and electrons. Protons and neutrons form the cores of atoms. Electrons fly around the cores. Some atoms allow electrons to jump from one atom to another. These types of atoms are referred to as being "loosely held." Materials made of loosely held atoms are called conductors.
